North by East Training Philosophy

Dog training is not about fixing a dog. It is about creating a healthy and full relationship with a dog.

To have a healthy relationship with a dog, we need to understand some basics of canine communication and leadership.

Having a healthy and an effective "no" is an important part of any healthy relationship. Setting boundaries with "no" is just clear communication.

Our goal with any training, including disciplining, is to increase understanding and love. (See the FAQ.)

No emotion is wrong in a relationship. We have to be aware of our anger and our fear to set healthy boundaries with a dog.

Dog training can be an honest, enjoyable process that helps us to better understand ourselves and our canine companions.

Dogs change over the course of their lives. North by East clients become the dog trainers, so they have the tools to resolve problems in the present and be prepared for new developments in the future.

Dog training is rooted in connection and understanding. Skills aside, the biggest part of my job is encouraging people to be creative and to listen to what a dog is saying.
